DAISY LEWELLYN
Lauren “Daisy” Lewellyn is understandably our very first Girl Saturday. She was an extremely vibrant, vivacious woman who enjoyed life and was exuberant in her displays of happiness, positivity and love. Some of you may remember Daisy Lewellyn as one of the stars of the Bravo TV reality show Blood Sweat & Heels. Daisy was the outgoing, fun loving, Style Expert whose smile was her favorite thing to wear!
Daisy taught us to “Live, Love, Laugh” no matter the challenges we experience in life. As a viewer of the Bravo show I was introduced to this wonderful person via my television screen, she immediately became my favorite. Daisy styled and smiled her way through life and always acknowledged that waking up every day is a blessing; one that we all should be thankful for. Before sharing her life on the Bravo series Daisy was a style expert who had already been in the industry for fifteen years. She worked for Essence, InStyle and Glamour magazines, to name a few. She could also regularly be seen giving on-air style advice, tips and tricks to help women to “Dress Like A Rich Girl On A Budget” on Good Morning America and The Steve Harvey Show. Daisy really loved helping women look their best and enjoyed showing them ways to do so while staying within their budget. Daisy also performed from drab-to-fab makeovers on tv shows Wendy Williams, Meredith Viera, the Today Show and many more.
The “Queen of Effortless Chic is also a published author! Her book Never Shop Retail Again is a fun, practical guide on how to maximize your style while being on a budget. Daisy loved to wear colors that were as vibrant as her personality. She frequently rocked affordable ensembles in bold fuschias, yellows and reds and often gave great style advice. Daisy loved sharing fashion tips and where to purchase clothing, shoes and accessories at affordable prices on her Instagram page @daisylewellyn
Daisy was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer in 2014 and made the concious decision to share her journey on season 2 of Blood Sweat & Heels.
During an interview with Madame Noire magazine, Daisy shared the news and when asked how Cancer had impacted her life and whether it caused her to reevaluate her life, she stated:
” Honestly, as crazy as this sounds, cancer has been the best thing that has ever happened to me. It’s been the hardest. The absolute hardest thing. That absolute most difficult thing that I would never wish on anybody, but I think it’s been the best thing for my life.
I’ve always had a pretty positive outlook on life, but what I will admit is that last season, we would argue. Sometimes I was involved in silly, petty arguments. At the time, things felt like they were so hurtful, but then you get diagnosed with cancer and you’re like, “Oh, no problem. I don’t even care.” In that sense, I think it helped not to so much reevaluate my life but to recognize the power in life.
It really helps me to not sweat the small stuff because we’re alive. I don’t want to fight with you because we’re alive. I don’t want to hate you. I don’t want to dislike you because we all have life. I’m not saying it means you have to like everybody, but it helps you to realize the power of life and the power of your influence.”
Daisy has also been quoted as saying “I have Cancer… it doesn’t have me.” The same positive outlook could be seen throughout her journey.
Even with a Cancer diagnosis Daisy was ALWAYS optimistic. How she celebrated and lived her life both before and after her diagnosis was beyond inspiring. Sadly Daisy Lewellyn died at the age of 36, in April 2016. Daisy’s beautiful spirit, heart and love will be missed by many. Our Girl Saturday showed consistent unwavering strength and faith through it all.
Although I never got the pleasure of meeting Daisy in person, she has defintely impacted my life in very powerful and meaningful ways. She unknowingly pushed me to live my passion, not to sweat the small stuff and to enjoy this thing called life. Daisy has taught me to be conscious of what I choose to show the world and to be mindful of the energy I’m putting into the universe because there is always the possibility and opportunity for you to touch, inspire and motivate someone to be their best selves, just like she has done for me and so many others.
